ventnor - Isle of wight

Ventnor Ventnor is said to be one of the sunniest spots on the Isle of Wight. Ventnor is the southern most resort on the Isle of Wight. Ventnor is a sun trap bay sheltered by high cliffs on which the terraced town is built. The town was build in the Victorian era and was constructed on a series of terraces beneath St. Boniface Down.

Ventnor Steep Ventnor roads are not for the faint hearted as they zigzag on a steep incline down to the sea passing the beautifully planted cascades. Ventnor has shingle beach and very clear waters. Overlooking the beach area are a range of superb pubs and cafes, which offer locally, caught seafood.

Ventnor is suitable for families of all ages and is popular for residents and visitors alike. Water Sports are not a suitable activity for this area. There are many hidden rocks and the tide is very strong.

Ventnors eastern promenade leads to Bonchurch, the Island's best preserved Victorian village. Between the village and shore is the tiny Old Church of St. Boniface constructed by Benedictine monks around 1070. Their is a car park at the western end of the Esplanade which adjoins the coastal path along the western cliffs. This car park offers a great spectacular view of the bay.

Ventnor town centre itself offers a wide range of speciality shops, which sell books, antiques and many other items of interest. One trip, which is well worth doing while in Ventnor, is the open top bus, which will take you right around the Isle of Wight and offers you superb views from every direction.
