With over 1000 local, national and international events the Isle of Wight is the place to be seen, to compete and to party. Nowhere in Britain hosts events quite like the Isle of Wight. With a mild climate, a supportive and vibrant local community, restaurants and pubs, stunning scenery and endless tourist attractions - it's the perfect events venue. Also throughout the year, the Isle of Wight is alive with local carnival celebrations, confirming its reputation as England's carnival island.
Isle of Wight Festival -
The Isle of Wight Festival – winner of the Best Major Festival award 2007 – this years (2008) festival takes place on 13th – 15th June at Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle of Wight. The 2008 Isle of Wight Festival has a line up that boasts The Police’s only UK Festival date, the Sex Pistols, Kaiser Chiefs, Lily Allen, The Kooks, N.E.R.D, Hoosiers and Scouting for Girls. Skandia Cowes Week - Skandia Cowes Week is the longest-running regular regatta in the world.
This year Cowes Week will take place between 2nd to 9th August 2008. The Event is held on the Solent (the area of water between southern England and the Isle of Wight). Skandia Cowes Week now stages up to 40 daily races for over 1,000 boats and is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world. Around 50,000 visitors are attracted to Cowes on the Isle of Wight to watch this Event and take part in the the festival atmosphere. Isle of Wight Cycling Festival - The Isle of Wight Cycling Festival has a variety of cycline events suitable for all ages and abilities. The Festival takes place at Seaclose Park, Newport, Isle of Wight with a fantastic Cycle Show where there will be all kinds of cycling experiences to take part in. Back for 2008 is Cycle the Wight, a 65 mile road ride around the island. The dates for this year's festival are 13th - 21st September 2008
Walk the Wight - Walk the Wight is a sponsored walk across the breadth of the Isle of Wight raising money for the Island’s Hospice which cares for over 800 terminally ill patients every year. In 2007 over 5,000 people Walked the Wight raising over £217,000 towards patient care.
It is a lovely walk across some of the Island’s most beautiful hills and countryside, predominantly on footpaths. Walkers have the choice of three distances depending on inclination and ability. This year Walk the Wight will be on 18th May 2008.
